Bonding with your baby bump is key to having an amazing pregnancy and a happy baby. Spending time connecting with your baby will create a life long bond.
Did you know that babies recognize voices from the womb and hear your heart beat at 20 weeks?
This is the reason mom and families should take special bump time for some of the following activities –
- Reading children’s books
- Singing lullabies
- Telling stories
- Sharing wisdom
- Playing your favorite soothing music
- If you have other children make it a family activity
As the baby grows and has a familiarity with the mom’s voice, once they enter the world they have a quicker attachment to their mothers. In addition, various studies have found that when bumps are exposed to music it helps build a foundation for your babies’ language skills.
20 weeks is also the time the baby can tell the difference between the families touch and strangers. You can use touch to communicate with your baby. If you feel the baby moving around give your belly a gentle rub of acknowledgement coupled with a few kind words. This can turn into a series of kicks, movements and rubs of communication.
Massaging the bump is a great activity for mother and baby – it’s a wonderful relaxing activity and you can add soothing oils like lavender or rose for an aromatherapy twist.
Essential to you and the bump are to keep it moving. Yoga is especially beneficial. The prenatal practice has positive calming effect on both mother and child. Did you know that the movements of the yoga poses will rock the baby in the amniotic fluid and the endorphins are also passed on to the baby? AMAZING!
Last but not least give your bump a nickname or start to use the chosen name. It is an amazing bonding experience for the whole family.
